Membership Information
Thank you for your interest in membership in the Potomac Woods Swim Club (PWSC). PWSC is a community non-profit club, limited to 360 family members. There are no geographical boundaries for membership. Our Membership Application can be found on the website under the Download Forms section.
We currently have both full and temporary summer memberships available. Full (Charter/Bond) membership requires purchasing a $600.00 membership bond and payment of annual summer dues. In 2003, a $600,000 renovation of the bathhouses, offices, swimming pool and parking lot was completed. The membership voted for a special building fund assessment of $150 for all current and future members. This assessment is not part of the membership bond. Full member annual dues are $650.00 for the 2012 season. Full payment (bond, assessment, and summer dues) is due upon acceptance of an offer of membership. Note, the bond (but not the special building fund assessment) is 100% refundable after resignation and the membership bond is sold to a new member. The refund policy of other swim clubs in this general area will vary from no refund at all to partial refunds.
Summer (or Temporary) membership, if available, does not require purchasing a membership bond. Summer memberships become available when a full charter member chooses to become inactive for a season. These memberships are offered to families that are on our wait list who have not yet been offered a full charter membership. The rate for a 2012 Summer Membership is $810.
Facilities include a 25 meter heated pool with a diving well, water slide, beach-entry shallow end with many water features. There is a separate children’s wading pool. The bathhouse facilities were also completely renovated in 2003. Swimming lanes are always available for lap swimming. Chaise lounges, chairs and picnic tables are provided. There are shady grassy areas in addition to sunny deck areas and a permanent shade structure on the pool deck. Other activities and facilities include tennis courts resurfaced for the 2011 season (with professional instruction available for adults and children), table tennis, and basketball.
The swimming pool season runs from mid-May to mid-September. Exact opening and closing are announced via our website. The hours of operation will be limited prior to the Memorial Day weekend and after the Labor Day weekend. Tennis courts are open year-round. Access is available by obtaining a key to the locked courts. There are active swim and dive teams for children, ages 6 to 18. Swim lessons are available from the pool staff. There are family picnics, grill nights, movie nights, adult mixers and an annual adult summer feast.
