Rules and guidelines to ensure a pleasant and safe experience for all members

1. Court Reservations

  • Members may not reserve courts in advance in regular practice. For questions or inquiries for special exceptions please contact Greg Basalla (gbasalla@gmail.com)

2. Guest Policy

  • Guest Fees: There is a $5 charge per guest, please submit payment via Venmo to @Potomac-Woods
  • Supervision Required: Members must always accompany guests and ensure they follow club rules.
  • At no time should any non-member be on the courts without being accompanied by a current member of the club, please do not share our private code for entry to the courts with any non-members

3. Court Maintenance

  • Clean-up: Players are expected to clean up the court after use, including picking up tennis balls and disposing of any trash.
  • Respect for Facilities: No damaging the court surface or equipment and report any damage immediately.

4. Tournaments and Lessons

  • Priority for Events: Courts may be reserved for PWSC-organized tournaments or lessons, limiting availability for general play.
  • Club Coaches: Only PWSC-approved coaches are allowed to offer lessons on the courts.

5. Behavior and Sportsmanship

  • Good Conduct: Unsportsmanlike behavior, including abusive language or inappropriate actions, is not tolerated.
  • Respect for Others: Members must be respectful of other players’ time and space.
  • Ball Management: Keep balls on your own court, and promptly return stray balls to adjacent courts without interrupting play.

6. Children and Juniors

  • Supervision: Children under age 12 may need adult supervision on the courts.

7. Court Usage Restrictions

  • Weather and Court Conditions: Play may be restricted due to weather or maintenance, with notices given in advance when possible.
  • The center court may be used for both pickleball and tennis. Please take care of the mobile pickleball nets when moving.
Pickleball and Tennis Rules & Etiquette
Pickleball Court 1 (Challenger Play)
  • Court 1 is designated as the Challenger Play Court during high volume of play. It is encouraged for players at higher skill levels.
  • Court 1 is available on a first come first serve basis for Potomac Woods Members (and any accompanying guests that have been checked in at the front desk).
  • All games should be to the standard 11 points, win by 2 rules.
  • If courts are full waiting players should place paddles next to the net of a game in play.
  • When a game is complete, losing players should relinquish the court to those waiting with their paddles in the queue.
  • Winners may stay on for up to 4 games before exiting the court and re-entering the queue.
  • Players may not hold a court to wait for others to join if there are others waiting in the queue.
  • Players may not place a paddle in the queue on more than one court, or on another court while playing a game.
Pickleball Courts 2,3,4 (Open Play)
  • Courts 2, 3 and 4 are available on a first come first serve basis for Potomac Woods Members (and any accompanying guests that have been checked in at the front desk).
  • All games should be played to the standard 11 points, win by 2 rules.
  • If courts are full, waiting players should place paddles next to the net of a game in play.
  • When a game is complete, players should relinquish the court to those waiting as follows:
    • If 4 paddles are down, all players leave the court to those that are waiting.
    • If 2 paddles are down, the winning team may stay on or if desired the waiting players may play a singles match.
    • If a single paddle is down, the individual shall be entered into the game and decided amicably who stays in to play.
  • Winners may only defend one game until exiting and re-entering the que.
  • Players may not hold a court to wait for others to join if there are others waiting in the queue.
  • Players may not place a paddle in the queue on more than one court, or on another court while playing a game.
  • Court 4 should be the preferred court for kids use during high volume of play. Adults are encouraged to queue in courts 1 through 3 during high volume of play. Children are allowed to play on courts 3, and 4, but must yield as the rules state above when other players place their paddles in the queue).
Center Flex Court (Tennis/Pickleball)
*If all four pickleball courts are in use, as well as the Tennis Court, the Center Flex Court shall be used as follows:
  • If courts 3 and 4 are being used for pickleball, then tennis players must place their racquets in the que to play on the Center Flex Court once the queued pickle ball games are complete.
  • Tennis players may play for one (1) hour before yielding the Center Flex Court.
  • Tennis and pickleball players may continue to place their racquets in the que as desired.
  • Tennis players playing on the Center Flex Court must finish their match and yield the court before they que at the Tennis Court.
Tennis Court
  • The Tennis Court is available on a first come first serve basis for Potomac Woods Members (and any accompanying guests that have been checked in at the front desk).
  • If the Tennis Court is occupied, then tennis players must place their racquets in the que next to the net to signal their intent to play next.
  • Tennis players may play for one (1) hour before yielding the Tennis Court.
  • Tennis players may not hold the Tennis Court to wait for others to join if there are players waiting in the queue.
